Motor Signal - Music: The rhythm of music connects us all w/ Passalacqua

Join us for the Motor Signal 2015 season kick off! Motor Signal is a monthly reading series that jolts the poetry and prose reading out of its conventional form.

Our kick-off event will explore how the rhythm and verse of hip-hop make it a deeply poetic art form. It will feature a live musical performance by Detroit rap duo Passalacqua (Kresge award recipients), an audience Q & A, and an interactive “remix” activity to unearth the songwriting process.

Open to the public. $5 requested donation.

SEATING IS LIMITED TO 80 PEOPLE. You can reserve your place in advance for just $5. Pick up your ticket right here:

Artist Bio: Passalacqua came to fruition when Brent Smith, and Bryan Lackner became aware of each other’s presence in the Detroit underground during the mid 2000s— Brent ‘Blak’ Smith as a spoken word artist and collaborator in the group ‘Cold Men Yong,’ and Bryan as a solo artist, rapping under the name ‘Mister.’ They reconnected during a new wave of local hip-hop and the advent of social media to form this duo and decided to name the project after an eccentric fellow they both remembered from their middle school science class.

After a series of eps, singles, east coast tours, and the acquisition of the Kresge Artist Fellowship in 2012, Brent and Bryan are currently back in the studio. They released a 7-song album called “Church” this summer and are working on a full-length record with producer Zach Shipps (Electric Six), which will surface in 2015.
