In this two-session course we will develop prints that incorporate linoleum carving and large handset type. Inspired by the work of the Mexican activist artist/printer Jose Guadalupe Posada, we will utilize the subject matter of current Detroit-based news stories to develop our own broadsheets. Resulting prints will be composed of a carved linoleum block relief image, based on first hand visual reportage or the translation of a news photo and a bold headline in hand set type inspired by printed news stories. Participants will carve and print their linoleum blocks, and learn to set and print type.
