Sunday, August 3, [10–4 PM]
$180 | 8 participants max
We’ll start this workshop covering the basics of relief printing and color ink mixing, and move onto exploring typographic forms by creating a series of collaborative layered prints using Signal-Return’s collection of wood type. On Sunday, participants will make their own idea/sketchbooks. We’ll collate the printed pages together with blank pages, fold and bind the pages together using a long-and-link stitch sewing (a sturdy yet flexible structure with exposed sewing on the spine, used primarily from the 17th to the 19th centuries in Europe for securing archives, records, and account books).
Instructor: Lee Marchalonis lives and works in New York City, where she teaches at Parsons the New School (Letterpress and Artist’s books) and at the Center for Book Arts (Bookbinding and Boxmaking) where she currently has a residency. She has an MFA in printmaking from the University of Tennessee Knoxville and a certificate in book arts and technology from the University of Iowa.
