SATURDAY, JULY 25 [10–4 PM]
Participants will build three contemporary non-sewn structures that are fast to make, need no specialty binding equipment, and are great for image-based work. We’ll start with a perfect binding, made from a stack of unfolded sheets of paper. Next we’ll assemble a softcover drumleaf and a hardcover stiffleaf, both made with a stack of folded sheets, with a variety of covering options. Specialty and commercial papers will be discussed, in terms of qualities appropriate for specific media and structures. Please bring ideas, questions, and work to discuss! No bookbinding experience necessary. All materials provided.
Instructor: Lee Marchalonis is Signal-Return’s printer-in-residence.
