Linoleum carving is a common method used by printers to create illustrations and other shape-based elements in their print projects. This workshop will go beyond the basics of single color block printing and cover the techniques of multicolor linoleum block printing. A multicolor print is created using several blocks of linoleum for each color run. Students will be guided through the process from preliminary drawing, making a block transfer for registration, to finished print. They will also learn about cutting tools, carving sequence and color mixing. Each student will carve and edition their own 3-color print from 6”x9” blocks. Attendees should come to the workshop prepared with a simple image or drawing they would like to work with. All materials included, participants will receive their own carving tool set to take home.
