Create your own planner with various bookbinding techniques!
This is a beginner workshop that focuses on folding techniques and simple bookforms that lay the foundation for hand making books.
In the first half of the class, participants will learn about the basic folds that make up all books ancient and new, and the history of some of the earliest types of book binding utilized in China and Japan. Students will create simple accordion, butterfly, and whirlwind binding books.
The second half we will create a ledger-style weekly planner using the method commonly referred to as Japanese stab-binding method. Stab-binding was the standard form for printed books in Japan by the late 16th century, and is still in use today.
Cost of workshop includes materials, instruction by S-R staff and takeaway books. Paper in this workshop is from French Paper Company, a small Michigan Paper Mill around for more than 140 years.
