Rainbow Rolls & Wood Type: Multi-Color Poster Workshop

$150.00
sold out

Instructed by Elizabeth Isakson-Dado (The Aquarius House)

Saturday, March 29, 10am-4pm

Class Size: Maximum 8

Let’s get colorful! Print a rainbow roll poster with your own personal message. In this one-day workshop students will learn letterpress techniques, with a focus on wood type and linoleum block printing to create a set of 9x12 posters.

A rainbow roll or split fountain is a printing technique that uses two or more colors of ink to create a three-colored or multi-colored print.

This class will teach the primary skills of working with physical typography using type from Signal-Return’s antique collection. This workshop will also teach techniques on mixing ink and color theory to create the rainbow roll backgrounds.

Each participant will learn how to properly compose, lock-up, and print a form on our printing presses. Participants will print their colorful rainbow roll backgrounds, typeset a personal message and print the text over the colorful backdrop.

Bring quotes, jokes, words of wisdom, or your favorite text to class to see printed on your poster. Think short and sweet. Try to keep text within 8 words or less and/or 60 letters.

Cost of workshop includes materials, instruction by S-R staff and takeaway prints. Paper in this workshop is from French Paper Company, a small Michigan Paper Mill around for more than 140 years.
