Group Visits

Thank you for your interest in bringing your group to Signal-Return—a community space located in the Lantern Building on Detroit's East Side. We are a working letterpress studio dedicated to teaching, creating, and producing, as well as a retail store stocked primarily with the work of Michigan-based artists. Because we are a nonprofit, all of the money we make goes back into our operating budget to support our studio activities and offerings.

SCHEDULE A TOUR

We provide you with a 30-minute guided tour of our print studio and give your group an overview of what we do and how we do it. This includes information about our presses, our type collection, and the history of printing.

Participants: minimum 5, maximum 30.

Cost: FREE. Tours must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.

SCHEDULE A DEMO

We provide you with a guided tour as described above and provide a 1-hour typesetting and printing demo. Includes 1 copy of a printed piece to take away for each participant.

Demo Option 1 / Print Design from Our Collection:

We provide your group with a pre-set, 1-color, single sided print design from our collection. 8x10 prints, 12x19 poster prints, postcards or greeting cards format.

Cost: $35/person. Participants: minimum 8; maximum 20.

Demo Option 2 / Custom Print Design Provided by You:

You provide a custom print design or logo to be printed. Up to 2-colors, single sided prints. Design and printing compatibility to be determined upon submission.

Cost: $45/person
Extra fees for custom printing plate and processing

Participants: minimum 8; maximum 20.

Demo Option 3 / Custom Print Design Provided by Us:

We provide a custom print design, incorporate a logo or branding in print design. Up to 2-colors, single sided prints.

Cost: $55/person
Extra fees may apply for custom printing plate and processing

Participants: minimum 8; maximum 20.

Demos must be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance with a 50% deposit paid once date is approved and before design drafts; the balance is due the day of the demo.

Demos with Custom Design or Design Elements include 2-3 drafts and 1-2 Edits from client.

BOOK A WORKSHOP FOR YOUR STUDENTS

We offer a four-hour group workshop in basic letterpress printing for students 18 and older. Students each create their own unique print design. Per-person fee includes materials, instruction by our staff, and a takeaway printed piece.

Participants: minimum 8, maximum 12.
Cost: $50/per student.

Workshops must be booked at least 3 weeks in advance with a 50% deposit paid once date is approved; the balance is due on the day of the workshop.

Book a Group Workshop

We create a custom six-hour workshop in letterpress printing for you and your group. This includes friends, families and organizations seeking team building activities.

Workshop Option 1 / Group Workshop - Short:

We create a semi-customizable workshop with set parameters to keep class on track during short session. Each person creates a print with the same layout. 1-color, single sided prints.

$75/person, 2-3 hours, Participants: minimum 8, maximum 12.

Workshop Option 2 / Group Workshop - Long:

We create a customizable workshop with a more in-depth dive into letterpress printing. Each person creates a unique print. 1-color, single sided prints.

$150/person, 4-6 hours. Participants: minimum 6, maximum 10.

Workshops must be booked at least 3 weeks in advance with a 50% deposit paid once date is approved and before design drafts; the balance is due on the day of the workshop. Extra fees applicable for special materials.

Workshops with Custom Design or Design Elements include 2-3 drafts and 1-2 Edits from client.
