Plantable Bookmarks! Letterpress Seed Paper Workshop
Instructed by Elizabeth Isakson-Dado (The Aquarius House)
Saturday, July 26, 10am-4pm
Class Size: Maximum 8
Design your own bookmark, print it on our antique presses and plant it in the ground?! In this one-day workshop students will learn typesetting and printing basics to create a set of 10 plantable bookmarks.
This workshop will teach the primary skills of letterpress printing using type from Signal-Return’s extensive collection of lead type, cuts, and ornaments. Each participant will learn how to properly compose, lock-up, and print a form on our table-top platen presses.
Come prepared with an idea of what your bookmarks might say or look like. Think short and sweet, keep text within 4 words or less or about 20 letters. Students will be producing 1 color, single sided designs.
The plantable seed paper contains a blend of wildflower seeds that are native and/or non-invasive to Michigan. This workshop is an opportunity to make a set of 10 bookmarks that can be used for their original intent and be planted to grow into wildflowers. A gift that keeps on giving.
Soak up some summer sun in Signal-Return’s bright new studio space and have some fun learning the typesetting techniques or refining your letterpress skills.
Cost of workshop includes materials, instruction by S-R staff and takeaway prints. Paper in this workshop is from Porridge Paper, a hand paper mill in Lincoln, NE, around for over 30 years. Seed papers are made from 100% recycled fibers, no chemicals or additives.
