This 1-day workshop offers a unique opportunity to print a custom carved linoleum block onto a set of 5 tote bags. Whether you have previous carving experience or are a beginner, this workshop will serve as introduction to linoleum carving, a versatile printmaking technique, teaching you how to carve, ink, and print your own designs.
Learn how to transfer images onto linoleum blocks and use various carving tools to carve intricate designs. Explore different carving techniques and learn how to operate our etching press to print your linoleum blocks onto your tote bags.
This is an image based linoleum carving workshop. Come prepared with ideas of what your print might look like or images that you plan to carve. If you have an idea involving text, keep in mind that this will need to be hand carved as a mirrored image, from the linoleum material. We will be working with 8x10 unmounted linoleum on 15x15 tote bags.
Linoleum carving is a common method used by printers to create illustrations and other shape-based elements in their print projects.
All necessary materials, including linoleum blocks, carving tools, tote bags, and ink, are provided. Cost of workshop includes materials, instruction by S-R staff and takeaway prints.
