Students will create vibrant layered artworks using hand-cut stencil (pochoir) techniques inspired by modern artists such as Matisse, Picasso, and early graphic print traditions. Through drawing, stencil cutting, and layered color application, participants will build bold graphic compositions using overlapping shapes, texture, transparency, and color relationships.
Working with paper stencils, water-based inks, and sponge or roller application methods, students will learn approachable techniques for creating richly layered imagery without the need for a printing press. The workshop emphasizes experimentation, improvisation, and hands-on image construction while introducing historical and contemporary stencil-based print practices.
This process is especially accessible because it can easily be continued at home with simple materials and tools.
