Create a two-layer screen print with your own imagery in this one-day workshop with teaching artist Melissa Dettloff.
We'll begin by printing a colorful background layer using hand-cut paper stencils, then create a second layer using the drawing fluid and screen filler process to add linework and detail. Along the way, you'll learn the fundamentals of screen printing, including image planning, registration, ink handling, and printing techniques.
Participants will leave with a small edition of original two-layer screen prints and a solid introduction to versatile, low-tech screen printing methods that can be replicated at home.
This workshop emphasizes experimentation and process over precision. The drawing fluid method creates bold, handmade prints with an expressive, imperfect quality rather than finely detailed reproductions.
Bring a few drawing ideas or source images sized to 6" × 9" to work from. Images with bold lines and simple shapes will work best for this process.
